BlizzCon 2015 LIVE: Blood and Treasure – New Content and Features for Reaper of Souls

Diablo 3

00:22: Question time!

Ramaladni’s Gift, smoothness of when you get it: Developers are happy with how it is now, happy with getting it as a surprise rather than guaranteed at a certain point.

Set Dungeons difficulty? Fixed layout, fixed difficulty, associated with completing it and mastering it.

Cave maps on GRifts too low density? Trying to make them feel better, can’t just increase density – looking at getting more breakables to get to more monsters faster.

Pet damage and colour damage? No plans to change the colour of damage for pets.

00:19: On Monday, 2.3.0B will be on technical test, but the PTR will be up for 2.4 later on next week (Wednesday or Thursday).

00:16: Season-exclusive legendaries are being cut out of the game, new ones will just come with the patch. Each season will have a guaranteed 6 piece set – Monks will get the Sunwuko set in S5. Each season journey that you play from S5 onwards, you will also get one more stash tab, up to a maximum of 10 tabs! Everyone gets a free tab in 2.4 too. Consoles get 350 slots, up from 210.

00:14: From Season 5 onwards, Blizzard are planning to make seasons last 3 months. Season 5 conquests will have 10 achievements in hardcore/softcore, and the goals in the chapter quests will vary slightly. More portrait frames and and the wickerman pet will be in Season 5. Skull and Bones, Andariel wings will be in a season after season 5.

00:11: Season 5 will introduce new mechanics, where you can “rebirth” a character that you’re attached to. Start over but lose nothing. Gear is sent to your main account, and you can keep hours played and character progress – they just turn into a seasonal character for that season. Seasons have been irratic for length some 5 months, some 7 weeks – season 4 will be approximately 4 months, ending in late December with 2 weeks notice. There will also be a break between seasons this time around.

00:10: Personal achievements have begun to change into the adventure chapter objectives, where you can log in when you like, and work on another section of the chapter before logging off.

00:06: Seasons are the next topic of interest, with season-only rewards such as pets, pennants, legendaries and transmog. There are conquests and leaderboards now. One thing that didn’t work were races such as racing to level 70 as everyone was going to do it anyway. Races were fun in other aspects such as completing Act I-V at max level in <1hr. Or killing 300 or more monsters in a cursed chest event at level 70 at Torment VI in hardcore mode.

00:02: Tome of Set Dungeons give clues to where you can find these set dungeons. You need to complete a set of objectives within a time limit, such as killing 21 enemies with one exploding palm, 3 times over. Or Lick 30 different enemies with a toad, things like that that your set bonuses will help you with. The reward? Pennants and awesome looking sets. It gives you a reason to play sets you’ve never really bothered with and stashed away. There are 25 dungeons in total, and you can get a nice set of green mechanical/bone wings to show off to your friends that you’re awesome.

00:01: A new set includes: While this is your only item set bonus your damage dealt is increase by 75% and damage taken is reduced by 4% – get to use legendaries and no set sets!

23:58: New legendaries include: War Cry and Threatening Shout cause an Avalanche and Earthquake. Locust Swarm gets Pestilence Rune. Energy Twister damage increases by number of Twisters out. New set bonuses too!

23:57: Kanai’s Cube legendary upgrades will be shown on the tooltip if you’ve already Cubed it, and Death’s Brand is now a light blue colour on drop.

23:55: You can also add primary stats like Dexterity in Kanai’s Cube. Number simplification will be coming too, instead of a long string of numbers for crits, you’ll now get things such as 43.9B damage, or whatever.

23:52: Gold is also an issue, some don’t have enough and some have way too much (vault, anyone?). Optional gold sinks will be coming into 2.4 with empowered rifts! You’ll get a 4th bonus roll to upgrade your legendary gem in greater rifts. This will scale up depending on difficulty: at 1 it’s 159k gold, at rift level 25 it will cost 4.6m, at 50 it will cost 49.9m gold while at rift level 75 it will cost you 540m gold!

23:49: Discrepancy between solo and group play is too wide, so they’re doing to reduce enemy health for solo, 2- and 3-player groups to balance this out. They’re also going to reduce the reduce the experience rubies give to players (so a ruby that usually gives 41% bonus exp only gives 4.1% in 2.4), but increase monster XP across the board to balance it out.

23:46: Buff UI is a little outdated, so they’ll be looking at revamping the buff UI. The trouble is that there are some that you need to care about quickly, such as Focus and Restraint. Others, such as Mantras, aren’t as important, so they’re now going to turn those buffs into a gold border when active, with a green bar over it to show the duration left. With external buffs, they are going to consolidate them into a single buff that you can mouse over to see what external buffs are on you.

23:43: New systems changes are coming to 2.4 thanks to feedback from players. The process of receiving feedback can go in multiple ways: in one category it could simply be a good idea but not feasible with their current design goals. Some are simply fun and easily implemented, others address root causes in the game that leads to long-term design goals. RoRG was an example of this.

23:42: Shamans is another bounty ground that resurrects your enemies. Burrowers is another one that will burrow underground to find more things to kill you. More ideas of what you can expect can be played on the floor… Thanks for letting us know at home!

23:40: Over 175 new bounties in acts 3, 4 and 5. Mix of standard bounties, new events, and bounty grounds – a new type of bounty where you look for a red portal that will take you to a small enclosed world. One of the worlds is a play on cursed shrines where you have to click on all 6 shrines quickly while minions try and kill you.

23:36: New monsters: The Bone Breaker is a sasquatch that throws the ground at you, then throws both you and the ground down. Flesh Harvesters and Amputators are crabs. Glowing Deaths are new traps that will unleash a swarm of wasps upon you if you step near them or accidentally break them. Greyhollow Island is in Act V!

23:36: New areas to be coming into the next patch will be two areas: The Eternal Woods – adjacent to the Ruins of Sescheron where massive yeti’s reside. The Royal Quarters is another area introduced, Leoric’s private quarters. An entirely new ZONE is Greyhollow Island, including 7 new events friendly for adventure mode storytelling.

23:35: New areas, set dungeons (has to do with set items?) are included in patch 2.4!

23:34: There have been so many new things introduced in Reaper of Souls in the patches, including treasure goblins, loot 2.0, removal of the AH, new difficulty settings, paragon levels, ancient items, Kanai’s Cube, seasons, adventure mode, and more.

23:31: One of the things talked about last BlizzCon was the legacy that Diablo leaves behind. For one point, it is the community themselves that have helped create the legacy. The second is the games themselves: after audience participation most of the people at the panel have played Diablo since D1 days. After looking at the legacy the games have left behind, they found out that it’s the patches that creates the legacy.

23:30: Diablo’s sole presence at BlizzCon this year, and I’m still covering more of it than I am of Hearthstone and Starcraft. Priorities! Speaking of Hearthstone, at the main stage there is the What’s Next panel happening right now that I’ll be looking at later! There was no real announcement made at the Opening Ceremony, so what do we have in store for our little ARPG?
